1.17 [KK 2006-11-28] Next development version.
     [KK 2006-11-29] Removed debugging stuff which by mistake slipped
     into 1.16 stable. Shipping this 1.17 as next-stable (instead of
     the previous 1.16, which is theoretically unnecessarily slow).
